Best of the Week: KSHMR (feat. Sidnie Tipton) – House of Cards
IT’S NEW MUSIC FRIDAY. Which means we have some of the best of the week to share with you. First up is the favorite. KSHMR’s latest, ‘House of Cards’, features Sidnie Tipton, and is a standout among new releases. This is the second time the artists have collaborated. The first being ‘Wildcard’ in 2016.
This one is a banger in it’s own right. It’s not as explosive as a lot of KSHMR’s other releases, but it works so well. Tipton’s voice fits beautifully with the song, proving why these two are a great pairing. The production alone makes for a killer track, but combining that with these vocals is a recipe for success.
The Best of the Rest: Diplo (feat. Santigold & Lil Yachty – Worry No More)
It’s only March 2nd, and 2018 has already been a great year for new music. Has me absolutely stoked for what’s to come. Among those that have been dropping greatness this year is Diplo. ‘Get It Right’ featuring MO is arguably my favorite Diplo track of all time. I still have that one on repeat. Following ‘Right’ was ‘Look Back’ with DRAM, and today he drops a new song and video for ‘Worry No More’.
From an overall song standpoint, it’s catchy, it’s fun and the Santigold/Lil Yachty partnership is awesome to see. I wish there was a little more production worked into it, but I’m still a fan either way, and I’m excited to hear his next release after this. The anticipation for the album is building, and this one will definitely be joining the playlist.
The Best of the Rest: Ekali x ZHU – Blame (NGHTMRE Remix)
NGTMRE released his take on Ekali x ZHU’s ‘Blame’ earlier this week, and the results are pretty epic. The original was already pretty good in my opinion, but a NGHTMRE remix is never one to sleep on. When the bass drops, you get that instant NGHTMRE feel that just gets you all sorts of pumped up. I hope NGTHMRE works this one into some live sets in the near future. If a pregame is in the plan for your Friday night, I would definitely recommend adding this one to the playlist.
Press the Skip Button: Marshmello & Logic – ‘Everyday’
My Marshmello fandom has been a bit of a roller coaster over the past few years. When he first came on to the scene, I was loving just about everything he put out. His older songs are still regular parts of my listening sessions. ‘Ritual’ was one of the last releases I was big on before his popularity seemed to skyrocket.
With the popularity surge, something changed. A lot of his drops started to sound identical and his songs were lacking the creativity they once had. It almost seemed as if a lot of his production was phoned in. According to Marshmello’s personal Twitter account, he’s been experimenting as an artist and loves what he’s working on now. I’ll admit I stopped checking for him for a little bit when this seemed to be the direction he was heading in, but then he released songs like ‘Silence’ featuring Khalid and ‘FRIENDS’ with Anne-Marie, and it seemed the originality was back. Both of those songs have become favorites, despite the fact that ‘FRIENDS’ was just recently released.
When Marshmello announced the release of ‘Everyday’ earlier this week, I was excited. Couldn’t wait to hear what was coming next coming off his past couple tracks. Unfortunately, when I listened to the song, it sounded like it was totally and completely Logic’s show. The track lacks any real hints of Marshmello, and I’m unsure what part he even really had in this. For me the production is something that could’ve been done by a million other producers, and the song sounds like a pure Logic song. Either way this song will be a hit as the popularity of both these artists is pretty high at the moment. It’s already climbed to #8 on the overall iTunes charts. I still remain a fan, but would love to hear some more like his previous releases, and a little less like this.
