For today’s Undiscovered Spotlight we’re switching it up with a music video premiere from R&B singer/songwriter and hip-hop artist, Jennifair. Jennifair hails from Chicago and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. Her new album “Tale of 2 Cities” is set to drop next Friday, 3/30 and is a must listen based on the music Jennifair has released to date. Jennifair shows her artistry in all of her music. From the soulful singing on “Pickup Lines” to showing off her hip-hop side a little on the funky “Sugar”, we can confidently recommend that you check out the video premiere below, and take a few minutes to get to know the artist a little more:
Q: At what age did you know music was your passion?
A: I’ve known music was my passion since I was a little girl. I used to watch my father sing in church. I knew that I wanted to be a singer also.
Q: What was the first song you remember singing?
A: When I was 7, I remember singing with my sister in the school talent show. We sang Total’s “Can’t You See” acapella with our eyes closed the entire time.
Q: Who’s been the most influential person in your career to date?
A: I would say my biggest influence would be Brandy. She’s my favorite singer.
Q: What advice would you give someone wanting to become an artist?
A: Learn as much about the industry as you can. It’s good to be knowledgeable. Also, practice practice practice your craft. Be yourself. Own your shit
Q: So you have a new album, “A Tale of Two Cities”, coming out on March 30th. Congratulations! How would you describe the music on the album?
A: The music is very honest. It’s very reminiscent of music I grew up listening to. I pull from the greats. It’s soulful, relatable, and fun. It tells a story from beginning to end. You won’t want to skip a track and I’m very proud of it.
Q: Which song off the album are you most excited to perform live?
A: “Testify” is probably my favorite. It’s energetic, soulful, and just a great song to perform live.
Q: What was the hardest part about recording the album?
A: The hardest part was having to believe I was truly finished with it. I had it done 3 times and I wasn’t satisfied. I ‘m really a perfectionist.
Q: What was your favorite part about recording your new music video?
A: My favorite part was the acting. I’m definitely not an actress. I’ve never had to act before. I really had to go back to the emotions I had when writing the song. It’s a super emotional video.
Q: How would you describe the concept of the video?
A: It’s definitely a love song, so we tried to capture that essence in the video. It’s about regretting mistakes and not being able to say goodbye.
Q: What’s planned for after the album release?
A: We have a couple more shows I’m planning. More videos. Merchandise for sale. Just a lot more content for 2018.
